Install Directions for Xbox360

Some notes regarding installation

The PulseVU 2X was designed to work with the Xbox360 by having the ability to control the Ring of Light as well as your external LEDs. It also comes pre-calibrated to the Xbox360's audio signal. These features are not available in the PulseVU 2.

The installation of this device has been made as easy as possible by using only large pads on the motherboard. The installation of this device does require soldering and some soldering experience is recommended. Be very careful when routing your wires from the PulseVU to the install points to place them where they will not be pinched when closing your case back together. You are wiring directly to current supplied by the power supply and improper installation can permanently damage your console. Opening your console will also void your manufacturer's warranty. That being said, if you have soldering skills and are comfortable opening your Xbox360, this install should be quick and easy for you.

Installation

The main installation of the PulseVU 2X in the Xbox360 consists of 6 wires soldered to the back of the motherboard. The PulseVU may also be stuck to the back of the motherboard with double-sided tape. Make sure to not block any holes with your wires and to isolate your PulseVU from the metal shielding with electrician's tape.

HDMI Connection

When using HDMI, you must enable the analog audio signals to still operate. Do this by soldering a wire from pin 22 to pin 24 next to the AL and AR pins. Keep AL and AR on pins 15 and 16 as well.

ROL Connection

The PulseVU 2X has the ability to also control your Ring of Light (ROL) around the power button. It can control either the green set of LEDs or the red set. The ROL LEDs will fade and pulse in sync with your other LEDs. By default, the ROL LEDs continue to work when the Xbox360 turns on, however if you would rather disable them when the console is on, simply join the jumper (two pads) located to the left of the "2X" text on the PulseVU chip with solder.

Adding additional LEDs

Your PulseVU 2X can support up to 3Amps of LEDs, which is about 150 LEDs. To connect them to the PulseVU, simply power them with the Xbox360 and connect the cathode (negative) side of the LEDs to the VU pad of the PulseVU. Use the appropriate resistor(s) if necessary. A good +5V power source for your LEDs is the side of this capacitor, located on the top side of your motherboard.

If you require more than 150 LEDs, you can connect one or more of our Power Extenders to the PulseVU, which will allow you to control as many LEDs as the power supply can handle.
